From March 31 to April 3, a Hanoi delegation led by Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan visited Sydney, Canberra, and Melbourne, forging key partnerships to boost economic and cultural cooperation. The highlight was the “Hanoi - Australia 2025 Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Conference,” co-hosted in Sydney with support from Australia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission.

During the event, Tuan reaffirmed Hanoi’s ambitious target of over 8% economic growth and its commitment to creating a transparent, investor-friendly environment. At the meeting, Hanoi and Australian enterprises inked several memoranda of understanding, reinforcing the city’s role as a gateway to Southeast Asia.

Earlier on the day, the delegation met with the Deputy President of the Legislative Council of New South Wales, Rodney John Roberts, to discuss bilateral engagement, governance models, and environmental management strategies.

In Canberra, the delegation met with the Minister for Planning and Sustainable Development, Chris Steel, to discuss sustainable urban planning and to lay the groundwork for a potential cooperation agreement between the two capitals.

In Melbourne, the delegation was hosted by Maree Edwards, Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, where both sides explored ways to strengthen legislative cooperation and policy exchanges.

The delegation also met with the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia, encouraging the diaspora to continue acting as a bridge for bilateral investment and trade.

Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said that Hanoi’s strengthened ties with Australia will serve as a catalyst for long-term and sustainable development.
